I’ve never had gallbladder surgery, but recently heard about a friend who was having it, so I decide to do some research on the issue, to see what tips were out there for people who needed to drop a few pounds after undergoing the knife.
If you have gallstones, then the chances are that you will have to undergo gall bladder surgery and removal.
The gallbladder is not an essential organ and it basically stores bile which is made by the liver. However, once the gallbladder is removed, your liver will still continue to create bile, however, it will simply go straight through your digestive system.
Once the gallbladder is removed, your body will most likely have trouble digesting fats and fatty foods which may result in weight gain. This is quite undesirable and you will have to make certain changes to your lifestyle if you want to lose weight after gallbladder removal.
We will now take a look at some of the most effective ways to do so.
1. Watch Your Diet
The first thing you need to do is pay close attention to your diet. If you are eating lots of fried foods, processed food, and sugary treats, then it is no wonder that you’re gaining weight. Instead, you need to start eating more fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.
These are natural foods that are not only low in calories but also high in fiber and offer proper nutrition. You should also incorporate complex carbohydrates into your diet such as legumes, beans, seeds, quinoa, brown rice etc.
It is best to avoid junk food and too many snack foods since these are just empty calories.

Here are just a few of our favorites right now:

There are plenty of other great diets out there two, but these 5 are nice mix of options, and good place to start when you begin your search.
I put BistroMD at the top (read our testimonial) because it was designed by a doctor, and could be a good option to check out after you’ve fully recovered from surgery.
Of course, consult with your doctor before trying any diets, to make sure you’re healthy enough for it. They can also help you put a plan together to help you get the best weight loss results.
2. Fiber? Yes, Please.
The next tip is to increase the amount of fiber that you eat every day. It is generally recommended that women get at least 20 – 25 grams of fiber and men get 30+ grams of fiber per day.
Fiber will help to improve your digestive processes, ensure that you feel fuller and help you to get through the day without eating excess calories.
Dietary fiber is extremely good for you and will ensure that you are at a reduced risk for cardiovascular diseases by lowering your cholesterol.
3. Calorie Control
Another tip is that you should start calculating the number of calories you eat per day. In order to lose weight, it is simply a matter of consuming fewer calories than you use.
By doing so, your body will use your fat as a fuel source which will cause you to lose weight. This means that you need to calculate how many calories you need to eat per day to maintain your current size based on your gender, weight, age and activity level.
There are many online calculators that can help you to figure that out and once you do, you can try to eat at least 200 – 500 calories less than that figure.
Once you eat fewer calories than your body needs, you will automatically lose weight. So, by having a caloric deficit of 500 calories per day, you should lose about 1 lb per week.
4. Physical Activity
In order to lose weight at a faster rate, you should start exercising at least 5 days per week. When you exercise, in addition to restricting your calories, you will lose weight at a faster rate.
Of course, the rate at which you lose weight through exercise would depend on your current weight, metabolism and other factors.
One of the best exercises to lose weight quickly is HIIT, high-intensity interval training. This type of training is where you do a specific exercise at an extremely high intensity for about 20 – 40 seconds and then rest for 10 – 20 seconds before repeating the exercise.
This is them repeated for a period of 10 – 40 minutes. When you train in intervals, you actually burn more calories than doing a steady state exercise for the same amount of time.
There have been many studies that prove that people who do HIIT exercises lose more weight in a shorter space of time than any other exercise type.
In addition to doing cardiovascular exercises which burn a lot of fat, it is essential that you also do weight training before your cardio for faster weight loss.
Many people ignore the weights, but this is simply detrimental. If you focus on weight training at least 2 – 3 times per week, in addition to doing cardio, you will build muscle which burns more fat.
It will also help to sculpt your body and make you look much more attractive than just doing cardio alone.
Lastly, you should drastically increase the amount of water that you drink on a daily basis. You should drink at least 2 liters of water per day and more if you are exercising.
This will not only flush toxins out from your body but increase your metabolism which will increase weight loss.
These are just a few tips for losing weight after gallbladder surgery, but there are plenty of other options out there as well.
For the best results, consult with your doctor to form the best plan of action, and get on your way to getting your weight back on track!
