It’s no secret that June Shannon, AKA Mama June, has long struggled with her weight. She first started grabbing people’s attention when her daughter, Honey Boo Boo, appeared on the show Toddlers and Tiaras back in 2011. It didn’t take long for Mama June and Honey Boo Boo to rise to stardom, and before long they had their own show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
During that show’s two-year run, they became know not only for their off-the-wall lifestyle but also for the incredibly bad food they ate. Of course, with an extremely poor diet, one’s weight is also going to be noticeable, and that was definitely the case for Honey Boo Boo and Mama June. They seemed to pack on more and more weight during the show’s two-year stint, and their large frames pretty much became one of their most identifiable features.
Their rise to stardom didn’t last long, however, as Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was abruptly canceled after disturbing allegations surfaced about Shannon’s alleged secret boyfriend at the time, Mark McDaniel. According to various reports, Mama June was secretly dating McDaniel, who had been incarcerated for 10 years for charges related to child sex abuse. June denied the accusations, but TLC apparently didn’t by it and put an end to all filming of the one-time popular show.
Since that time, Honey Boo Boo and Mama June have largely flown under the radar, but that all changed recently after it was revealed that the one-time reality star had undergone a dramatic weight loss transformation. This bombshell was going to be documented too, and a new reality show Mama June: From Not to Hot, would soon follow. The show is being aired on WE tv and can be viewed on TV or online.
The show provides an inside look at Shannon’s amazing transformation, and it also reveals how she lost all of the weight.
How Much Weight Did She Lose?
According to multiple media reports, Momma June apparently went from tipping the scales at 460 pounds, to a size 4. While that doesn’t give an exact number for how many pounds she lost, it seems safe to assume that she could have dropped 200 pounds or more. This dramatic weight loss was thanks to weight loss surgery and other medical procedures. In additional to the medical intervention, she also credited her dropped pounds to an increase in physical activity and making better choices when it came to the foods she ate.
She used a personal trainer, who she said helped keep her accountable, and offered great workout tips. After getting some great advice from her new trainer, Shannon started going on walks around her neighborhood, and before long she was walking three miles per day.
In recent interviews, June has shared that she actually paid for her weight loss surgeries, which may have come as a surprise to many. Either way, though, it appears she is on the right track to turning her health around, and judging from early episodes of her new show, she seems committed to her new way of life.
Now let’s hope some of these “lifestyle changes” rub off on Honey Boo Boo as well…
